JackPine Press is a not-for-profit press that relies on the generous contributions of our volunteers, interns, and working volunteer board members. We are grateful for the time, creativity, and labour contributed to JackPine Press’ operations and aim to share handmade book craft know-how, industry knowledge and opportunities with our volunteers whenever possible.
How much time do you need to commit?
We understand that your time is valuable and work to be transparent in our expectations of volunteers.
Volunteer Board Members
Volunteer board members are part of our working collective of creatives. Volunteer board members are responsible for press governance and direction, and act as an editorial board overseeing submissions and chapbook production. Volunteer board members can expect to participate in one board or editorial meeting per month (virtual) as well as other editorial, promotional, financial, governance, and communications tasks and responsibilities based on their interests and skillsets.
Approximate time commitment: 2-10 hours per month
Interns
JackPine Press collaborates with the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina to create intern placements for course credit. If you are a student at one of these academic institutions and are interested in interning with JackPine Press, please contact your academic advisor.
We acknowledge that opportunities outside of academic institutions should be made available to emerging bookmakers and publishing professionals as well. Volunteer interns work with the executive director to create an accessible schedule for training and completing work and can tailor their workload to their areas of interest. In exchange for their time and work, JackPine Press provides training and resources, and can provide an honest letter of recommendation for volunteer interns as they pursue other opportunities in their creative practice and arts careers.
Approximate time commitment: 24 hours per month
General Volunteers
If an ongoing volunteer commitment is out of reach but you’d still like to be involved with JackPine, we’d love to have you! We seek out volunteers to help with events, press promotion, and special projects. Let us know what areas of interest are of interest to you and how much time you can commit and we will reach out and let you know when we have a volunteer project or event that might be a good fit for you.
