Call for Editorial Board Members

Call for Volunteers in Saskatchewan: JackPine Press Editorial Board

JackPine Press is looking for poets, makers, artists, and designers to serve on our newly established editorial board. The editorial board will meet quarterly to review new submissions and make recommendations to the Executive Director (ED) and governing board on publishable new chapbooks. Our publishing focus is to help artists create unique, beautiful, handmade poetry chapbooks. We encourage collaboration, the intersection of artistic disciplines, and the exploration of what a chapbook can be.

The ED will prepare a submission packet for board members to review prior to each meeting. We assess between 3-6 submissions each quarter. Each submission includes a manuscript, design statement, budget proposal, and often a prototype. Editorial board members will assess the suitability of proposals in quality, scope, and feasibility, and should be prepared to offer suggestions to improve the finished chapbook in design or content. The time commitment for this role would be between 3-8 hours per quarter.

Volunteers with skills and interest in copyediting and proofreading would be invited to work collaboratively with authors to prepare manuscripts for publication. Additionally, volunteers with skills and interest in design, art, and making would be invited to work collaboratively with designers for the same goal. These roles are optional and would be an additional time investment.

JackPine Press is invested in decolonization, anti-racism, and anti-hate. We consistently edit for ableist, racist, homophobic and transphobic language. If this sounds like something you’d like to be a part of, please email us a statement of interest (~300 words) and CV by the 14th of February 2022.

For the interim, all meetings are held online. JackPine Press is funded by the SaskArts Board. Residents of Saskatchewan will be given priority.
