Sea Foam by Courtney Bates-Hardy and Faith Logan demonstrates our fraught relationship with change by framing each moment or possibility of change within a myth. The title alludes to Hans Christian Anderson in which the mermaid thinks she is dissolving into sea foam, but changes instead into a spirit of the air and is given a second chance at gaining a human soul. This collaboration between writer and artist features illustrations of sea life, which have been individually carved and stamped onto tarasen swirl paper, slipped between vellum pages, and bound using Japanese stab binding.
